gamma phi history
Gamma Phi Beta was founded by Helen M. Dodge, Frances E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis, and Mary A. Bingham on November 11, 1874, at Syracuse University, New York. Our sorority is one of the seven founding members of the National Panhellenic Council and the term "sorority," meaning sisterhood, was coined for Gamma Phi Beta by Dr. Smalley in 1882. The Founders were inspired to organize a women's society dedicated to promoting lifelong commitment, intellectual and personal growth, and service to humanity. We are an international organization with almost 200,000 members, 128 collegiate chapters, and 175 alumnae chapters in both the United States and Canada.

our chapter
A little over a hundred years later, Gamma Phi Beta found its way over to one of the nation’s most beautiful campuses. The Delta Eta chapter was established at UCI in 1974, and has been a part of the campus community since. Today, we continue to thrive upon the values and the sisterhood instilled by our visionary founders: Love, Labor, Learning, and Loyalty. Gamma Phi Beta enhances the college experience for every member through the bonds of sisterhood, intellectual development, and a commitment to embodying the highest type of womanhood. This sisterhood collectively inspires us to live our core values of loving ourselves and our sisters, learning both in and out of the classroom, laboring through putting our hearts in our philanthropic endeavors, and remaining loyal to each other and the everlasting bonds of our sisters both near and far.
